Hidimbi is the lesser known wife of one of the Pandavas, Bhima. She is born a demon, and first meets Bhima in the forest where he and his brothers are in exile. Her initial designs involved luring him into getting eaten up by her brother. Bhima vanquishes the brother but Hidimbi eventually falls in love with him and they get married. She bears a son, who possesses the strength of a demon and the virtue of a man, and plays a part in the epic war that transpires between the Pandavas and the Kauravas.

She has a temple dedicated to her in Manali, a town in the Himalayas. It’s a lovely little place – best visited in the wee hours of the morning when there are not many people in sight.

The legend of Abhimanyu is a tragic one. He is the son of Arjuna, the Pandava warrior in the epic Mahabharatha, and learns the tricks of warfare at a very young age. Owing to his knowledge, he is called upon to the battlefield – quite prematurely, and is trapped fatally in the chakravyuha formation laid out by the enemy.
